300px-Wood_putter_ironWhen playing golf, the most important part of the game is to pick the golf club that will work well for the particular situation that you are in. Everything about the course will play a role in deciding which club you remove from your bag, and therefore it is important to know how all of these different factors work together. If you are looking to become more serious about your golf game, or you even want to become a professional, then it is a good idea to learn about these things. Here I will outline some of these main things to look for. You will get a very basic idea of how to choose a club, and hopefully you will practice enough to become even more knowledgeable at choosing them.

When you first start out the game, you usually won’t have much to worry about in the way of obstacles and bends in the course, so you can stick with the larger clubs and hit the ball as far as you can. However, you want to make sure that you are comfortable hitting the ball as hard and as far as you can without making it go completely off its desired path. Many golfers choose to take a step up with the club, then take a lower grip and hit the shot as hard as they can. Having the lower grip will allow for more control over the swing, and reduce the chance of a mistake while increasing the distance that your ball flies. This strategy may not work for you, but enough golfers use it that it might be worth trying, just to see if you are comfortable with it.

The wind also plays a huge role in deciding with what club and with what technique you will hit your shot. If the wind it coming straight at you, you will have a different technique than if it was at your back. When the wind is coming from behind you, you will want to make a completely normal swing. However, you will have to pick a more lofted club. Grip the club with the ball positioned a little bit ahead of the center than regular. Use a mid-iron, with one of the longer lengths that are available in your club bag. If the wind is coming straight at you from the front, you will have to use a stronger club and hit the ball hard enough to make up for the wind that is coming at you.

Choosing the right club in a given situation will not necessarily make your shot perfect. You will have to adjust your technique as well, and make sure that your stroke is clean and accurate. This combined with the right club will eventually make for the perfect shot, but it may take years and years of golf practice. Both the club choice and the technique take a long time to master, so besides reading information about them you should also go out and practice plenty so that you can really get it down. This will help better than any other guide that you could possibly find. If you don’t have constant access to a golf course, it may be a good idea to buy a membership or even find some sort of alternative way to practice.

No matter what you do, you have to remember that golf is a game of patience. If you play every day and you see absolutely no improvement in your technique, you should not worry. Just do everything you can to find out more about what to do in certain situations, and you will find that this is the best way that you can see noticeable results in your abilities. Being good at golf is a great way to impress people, and being good at golf takes nothing more than time and experience.

About PING

PING designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of golf equipment including metal woods, irons, putters and golf bags. The family-owned company was founded in 1959 in the garage of the late Karsten Solheim, a mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the aerospace and computer industries. His frustration with his putting inspired him to design his own putter, which created a “pinging” sound when striking a golf ball. This sound was the source of the name now synonymous with innovation, quality and service throughout the world of golf. Solheim and his company are credited with numerous innovations that became industry standards, including perimeter weighting, custom fitting and the use of investment casting in the manufacturing of golf clubs. His insistence on adhering to strict engineering principles and tight manufacturing tolerances raised the level of product performance and quality throughout the golf industry. Solheim is the only person to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame as a golf club manufacturer. Today, the Phoenix-based company is under the direction of Solheim’s youngest son, John A. Solheim. PING game-improvement products can be found in more than 70 countries. For more information, visit www.ping.com.

Miller Golf Employees

If you a golfer or even an occasional golfer, chances are that you have already had Miller Golf in your bag as a partner to your game. When the Ontario PGA Golf Merchandise Show opens up next week in Toronto, they will be launching new products and introducing innovative merchandise to a big crowd, once again, to the golf industry.

Ever since 1958, when Miller Golf, a Hyde Park-based manufacturer and supplier of customized golf accessories and awards, has been introducing their products to golf courses all over Canada. It is a very good chance that the bag tag that is distributed by your club came from Miller Golf, in fact for over 50 years, they have had a near monopoly in the bag tag game with their identification tags. This is according to the company vice-president Jamie Windsor.

They are recognized thoughout the Canadian golf industry as the leading manufacturer and designer of ball markers, divot tools and tags. From their 25,000 sqft distribution Woodcock Street plant to locations across North America as well to clients in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland. If you looked in the pro shop in your local club, you would probably find a complete range of golf course and tournament items that were custom designed with the logo of the clubs and tournaments, all brought to you by Miller Golf.

“We get strange requests,” said Windsor, who has designed a set of teeth on some bag tags for a U.S.-based dentist, who using the tags for promotional purposes.

If you asked Windsor, the London based company targets the ten of thousands of golf clubs throughout Canada and their ace in the hole in the golf business is from golf club pro shops who focus on the “green grass industry”. When you think of all of the things supplied such as glass and crystal plaques, trophies that recognize hole-in-one awards, head covers, tees and even pencils and towels, all of this makes Miller Golf the Jack Nicklaus of the golf industry.

It is no suprise that Miller Golf was born on the golf course and in the basement of the founder and CEO, Jim Windor. He was the head professional at London’s Sunningdale Golf & Country Club from 1952 and 1989. After he retired, he had decided that the plain looking grey fibre board bag tag with the simple stamping, which was common in the early 1950′s was just not making the cut. So he decided to purchase a machine and began manufacturing round plastic tags from his home in London. He also purchased a machine that decorated the tags in colored foils.

Jamie Windsor said there has been “an evolution in products recently, with ¬≠full-colour tags which can now, for example, display photographs.” He said as part of the greening of the golf industry in general, Miller Golf now sells bamboo tees.

It remains rather interesting that in an economy that is not at it’s best and a definite concurrent drop in rounds played, golf still remains a rapidly changing industry, with the introduction of new technologies in clubs, balls and even clothing. They are now boasting moisture wicking and UV protection. When visitors come out to the Ontario PGA Show on October 28th at the International Centre in Toronto, they will be bombarded with new gear, apparel and accessories. There is still cautious optimism that remains about the overwhelming feeling among the Canadian golf industy.

“This year’s Ontario PGA Golf ¬≠Merchandise Show is all about getting back to growing the business of golf and providing the education needed to achieve our goals with a little bit of fun mixed in,” said PGA Golf Exhibitions Industry Vice President John McGeary.

Miller Golf will continue to be putting more fun into the game of golf as long as dentist and doctors are ordering bag tags that are adorning sets of teeth.
