La Manga Golf Resort

In an first overseas event that was held at the luxurious La Manga Club Resort in Spain has been an overwhelming success as per the English Womens Golf Association (EWGA). Women golfers from all over the country have travelled to this beautiful resort.

With the La Manga Club Challenge was established in conjunction of the EWGA as part of a five-star venue and becoming the organization’s official overseas resort partner. More than 40 members would take part in the competition from October 10-15 at all of the three championship courses. Besides the golfing, these folks enjoyed the abundant free time at the resort’s first class facilities.

The event uses the Stableford system of scoring and Carole Mathieson and Claire Green would be declared the winners of the week. These members of the Redlibbets GC won the pairs competition with a total of 42 Stableford points on the resort’s North course.

This was not their first victory as they had already won the team titile on the opening day of the event. They stormed to victory with club mates Kam Cheema and Linda Berriman with 84 points. It also had a individuals round that took place on each of the South and West courses which was won by Carol Duncumb, an eight-handicapper from Rothley Park Golf Club in Leicestershire.

A sweep by the Redlibbets was avoided by Duncumb and her 64 points were seven ahead of the second-place Cheema.

Green said: “We are absolutely chuffed. We came for a nice holiday, and I can’t believe we have picked up some prizes.

“We have had a great week. We came here to have a good time, to play golf and enjoy each other’s company. Everything else is a bonus.”

Duncumb added: “I can’t think of any lady here who is not going to come again. We will certainly go back and tell everyone about it.”

Each of the players would enjoy a welcome reception which showed the vibrant social side of the event. The reception was followed by a gala dinner and an excellent opportunity for all of the ladies to take in the La Manga Club’s various restaurants and other delights.
