Team Dunaden are delighted with the horse’s wide barrier, after drawing gate 16 of 24 in the Melbourne Cup field 2012.
The Nicobarentire appears ideally positioned amongst the Melbourne Cup field, after winning last year’s race from barrier 13.
Owner Sheikh Fahd Al Thani feels that everything has fallen into place ahead of the $6 million race in two days’ time.
With jockey Craig Williams back on board, and an unbeaten record on Australian soil to his name, Dunaden is perfectly placed to become the sixth horse in history to win multiple Melbourne Cups.
“Dunaden is a champion ridden by a champion and his trainer is a champion,” the Sheikh said.
“I think he is the right horse to do it and the barrier (16) is perfect.”
Dunaden won the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup at Caulfield Racecourse last start, proving that he is in top from ahead of Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup 2012.
However, his owner feels that he will have improved even further from his last run.
“We are very pleased with the horse as we thought he was 80 per cent fit for the Caulfield Cup and he has come on a lot since then,” the Sheikh revealed.
“He has come on a lot since then and is 100 per cent for the Melbourne Cup.
“The horse loves Australia, he definitely improves down here.”
Dunaden is currently paying odds of $7 to win the 2012 Melbourne Cup and is on the second line of betting.
Fellow French galloper Americain is currently the betting favourite in the Melbourne Cup field 2012 at $5.
